Pros and cons of office carpet tiles
In this modern era of design and fashion, most office environments are kept flexible to accommodate frequent layout changes. Office Carpet tiles is such a modular flooring system which can be quickly adapted to changing needs, low reorganizational cost and allowing flexibility in design. Basically carpet tiles are the squares of carpeting that are joined in a similar way to standard carpet flooring. They are merged with the floor with the help of glue while some are stapled down. Also, their installment and combination can be done in various creative ways. These tiles are available in different sizes with long rectangular shapes. Apart from rectangular shapes some manufacturers are offering different creative designs.
A blend of different fibers is used in the manufacturing of carpet tiles. These fibers include wool, acrylics, cotton, polypropylene, polyester and nylon. Ninety percent of fibers are synthetic and the remaining ten percent are natural fibers. Attaching different backing types is the prime difference between broadloom and carpet tiles, which create a multi – layered product. This multi layering structure is very useful in absorbing 25% structure – borne sound than broadloom. People also loved to have carpet tiles due to its easy installation mechanism. During installation, less wastage happens due to its small size.
Carpet tiles are of two types; one is hard backed and the second one is cushion backed. Although, both share the common construction method and fiber used, yet, the backing types make them different from each other. This difference also puts a drastic impact on their lifetime. Along with benefits, it also carries some drawbacks as well. Below is a comparative analysis of pros and cons of carpet tiles.
Pros of carpet tiles:
Easy of install: Easy installation is one of the impressive characteristics of carpet tiles. They are small in size and can be moved and lifted easily. Their modularity allows various size selection options and less wastage in installation.
Easy to maintain: The general maintenance of both types of floors are the same, but the difference becomes apparent when it comes to spot replacing. A damaged section of broadloom flooring is hard to replace as compared to carpet tiles.
Extremely durable: Durability of carpet life is dependent on various factors. Not all carpets offer longevity. To select the most durable, few factors must be kept in mind. Very often, cushioned backed tiles are considered more durable due to its traffic absorbing ability than hard backed tiles.
Flexibility in design: In terms of design flexibility, carpet tiles offer many types as compared to broadloom. Thanks to innovation in dying technology, it is now possible to produce a wider range of colors, patterns and designs on carpet tiles than other ones.
Comfortable environment: Significant ambient improvements in carpet tiles have made it possible to reduce the structure – borne sound, which is found heavily in hard flooring and broadloom. The absence of this noise ensures comfortability. Cushioned backed tiles assist in reducing muscle fatigue, frequency of slipping and improve underfoot comfort.
Cons of carpet tiles:
As it is obvious that carpet tiles offer durability and flexibility in designs for most of the commercial projects, however, in some places they are not proven to be as effective as hard flooring and broadloom.
Expensive: A wide gap is found in pricing of carpet tiles and rest of flooring. Usually, carpet tiles are a little more expensive than other types.
Moisture friendly: They are not best suited to places where moisture, mold and mildew are probable to be found.
Visibility of seams: If proper installation of carpet tiles is not carried out, the seams become easily seen and uneven compared to wall to wall carpet rolls.
Non- Uniform appearance: One of the obvious drawbacks of carpet tiles is the lack of repentance in appearance. Even after perfect installation still it is not possible to get the uniform look. It is due to the nature of carpet tiles designing.
